Sports Nutrition MOQ and Price: Specify the Serving First
A tub, sachet and capsule bottle can represent different quantities and services even when they share a headline ingredient.
Normalise the offer before comparing the minimum
| Decision | Information to request | How to use the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Serving basis | Ingredient amounts, finished serving mass and servings per pack | Keep raw-material and finished-serving figures distinct. |
| Format | Pack type, fill or count and artwork version | Compare like with like before deriving a unit price. |
| Requirements | Named tests, documents and any channel programme work | Identify whether the proposal includes that scope. |
| Minimum driver | Production batch, components, print or development | Ask which commitment prevents a smaller order. |
| Alternatives | Different pack or formula and its changed scope | Make the trade-off visible rather than calling it the same offer. |
Identify the minimum that actually constrains the order
Illustrative purchasing exercise, not a customer case, test result or quotation.
A buyer requests a small number of retail units, but the quoted packaging component has a different commitment from the production batch. Ask for both quantities and the ownership of any balance.
- Product quantity: Finished units per formula, flavour and pack configuration.
- Component quantity: Bottle, sachet, label or printed-box commitments relevant to that configuration.
- Commercial decision: Use of the balance, storage, ownership and reorder treatment.
Decision output: MOQ is discussed for the actual project and customer situation. Do not present a general industry quantity as our fixed minimum or assume that a low initial unit count removes component commitments.
Keep a lower-quantity option in the comparison only with its differences stated. A changed serving, component or programme requirement may change the product decision. This worksheet does not assume a standard MOQ or certification charge. Obtain a dated proposal with inclusions and exclusions before using it in a launch margin calculation.
