Vitamin and Mineral Product Development: Formula and Manufacturer Review
Use those decisions to evaluate manufacturer fit rather than beginning with an unsupported best-company ranking.
Translate the nutrient brief into a product definition
| Decision | Information to request | How to use the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Nutrient sources | Chemical forms, supplied potencies and reporting units | Keep compound mass separate from the declared nutrient contribution. |
| Serving | Reviewed amounts and finished units per serving | Reconcile the formula and proposed facts panel. |
| Format | Capsule, tablet or another presentation and relevant constraints | Do not assume the same recipe transfers without evaluation. |
| Audience and statements | Intended use, proposed wording and review responsibility | Avoid unreviewed gender, age or medical-suitability claims. |
| Evidence | Product methods, relevant results and package support | Identify what the selected manufacturer must provide. |
Reconcile a vitamin or mineral brief across documents
Illustrative purchasing exercise, not a customer case, test result or quotation.
A brand brief, ingredient quotation and draft label may express the same nutrient on different bases. Bring those documents to one serving and one defined material basis before asking for a manufacturing quote.
- Brand brief: Target product, format and proposed serving for review.
- Material record: Exact nutrient form and the contribution basis stated in its specification.
- Retail record: Serving, pack count, label version and outstanding market questions.
Decision output: The output is a reconciled product definition. It does not establish an appropriate intake or imply that any nutrient form is universally suitable for a particular audience.
Make one formula-to-label calculation and have it checked against the actual supplied materials. FDA’s nutrition-labelling guide is a reference for US presentation questions; other destinations require their own review. Men’s or women’s positioning is not itself a nutrient specification or evidence of benefit. For a broad supplier shortlist use the separate contract-manufacturer comparison.
