Tablet Contract Manufacturing: Agree the Process and Acceptance
Separate the technical specification from commercial responsibilities so that neither is left implicit in the order.
Agree the tablet production decision points
| Decision | Information to request | How to use the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Product route | Swallowable, chewable or effervescent presentation | Identify the use conditions and relevant performance questions. |
| Process proposal | Blending, any granulation, compression and coating stages | Ask what the proposed route needs to establish for this formula. |
| Unit assessment | Weight, composition and applicable physical checks | Have methods, sampling and criteria selected for the product. |
| Pack | Container system, unit count and reviewed instructions | Connect evaluation to the final combination. |
| Responsibilities | Material approval, deviations, batch disposition and changes | Specify who decides and which records are supplied. |
Distinguish a tablet attribute from a process instruction
Illustrative purchasing exercise, not a customer case, test result or quotation.
A buyer specifies tablet appearance and handling, while a supplier proposes a particular compression route. Agree the finished-unit acceptance task without assuming that a process setting alone proves the resulting tablet meets it.
- Product requirement: Formula and the physical attributes to be assessed.
- Proposed process: Relevant manufacturing steps and the party controlling them.
- Acceptance: Sample identity, method, conditions and who resolves a result outside the agreed basis.
Decision output: The order should connect the process proposal to the actual tablet version. Any numeric acceptance limit must come from the agreed specification rather than this general guide.
Do not borrow hardness, disintegration or other pass limits from an unrelated tablet. Ask the technical reviewer to explain the basis for each selected test and the remaining uncertainty after a pilot. The production agreement should identify which formula, process, package and artwork revisions are authorised.
