Supplement Supplier Quality: GMP Evidence, Audits and Product Claims
Registration, inspection, management-system certification and product testing should not be compressed into a single approved-factory badge.
Connect each assurance to its evidence
| Decision | Information to request | How to use the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Identity of the operator | Legal entity, production site and subcontracted activities | Check that evidence covers the operation proposed for your order. |
| Manufacturing controls | Relevant procedures, records and assigned quality decisions | Follow a material or batch through an actual documented process. |
| Certificate or inspection | Issuer, scope, date and current status | Identify findings or limitations rather than relying on a logo. |
| Product evidence | Specification, sample identity, methods and relevant results | Keep it separate from a site-level assessment. |
| Exceptions | Deviation handling, substitution approval and complaint records | Agree how the buyer receives and evaluates the information. |
Follow one supplier claim into evidence
Illustrative purchasing exercise, not a customer case, test result or quotation.
A supplier says that production follows GMP. Ask which site and activity the statement concerns, what evidence is available, and which operator will perform your order. A general company brochure does not resolve subcontracted work.
- Claim: Record the exact facility or process statement being assessed.
- Evidence: Review the named document, issuer, dates, scope and any relevant findings.
- Order connection: Identify the proposed operation and the records required for the product.
Decision output: Keep unresolved gaps in the supplier review. This is a verification method, not a statement that our company or every listed product holds a particular certification.
For US dietary supplements, FDA’s CGMP guide describes specifications and quality-control responsibilities. That is regulatory context, not evidence of this company’s certification. Ask the supplier to identify the records available for the proposed product, and agree how open issues will be closed. Optional organic, vegan or other claims need their own applicable evidence; a general quality-system statement does not establish them.
